Heather Allen

The written word has been my passion ever since my older brother taught me how to read at the age of three. For the next three decades, I was (and still am!) rarely seen without a book or two in my hands. For me, my doctoral project of exploring the neural, linguistic, and textual factors that determine a reader's cognitive and empathetic relationship to the information embedded in a written work is a natural extension of the curiosity that inspired me to learn to read all those years ago.

I wish to bridge the cultures and languages of science and literary studies while exploring the possibilities of practical applications for understanding how the human brain interacts with texts and narratives

Master's Thesis

My work incorporates neuroscience and cognitive science as disciplines with widely applicable, cross-contextual potential, into a literary analysis of a reader’s mental and emotional interaction with a textual narrative.
